Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge at Phil Hardberger Park

The Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge is the largest of its kind in the United States. Spanning 165 feet wide by 160 feet long, it stretches over Wurzbach Parkway, providing an exciting new way for nature lovers to explore the local wildlife. The Civil Design of the project includes a walking trail where visitors can admire a variety of four-legged and winged critters while suspended above the busy San Antonio roadway.

In addition to the trail, an ADA-compliant skywalk, reaching heights of 18 feet, weaves park-goers above a treetop canopy and onto the main trail of the bridge. Two strategically placed wildlife viewing blinds, located on either side of the trail, offer even more opportunities for wild and plant life gazing. The Civil Construction of the bridge was driven by the goal of reducing motorist and wildlife collisions in the Wurzbach Parkway area, while also serving as a connector for Hardberger Park’s east and west sides. Overall, the Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge is a valuable addition to the community, providing new opportunities for nature lovers and promoting safety for both humans and wildlife.
